Over the years, people tend to forget the men who sacrificed their lives during wartime and take for granted events in the past that shaped what the world has presently become. “We Were Brothers,” the new book by Dane Hoover, invites readers to revisit a war-torn world where men become mere statistics and life is reduced to a daily battle for survival.
The book follows the physical and emotional struggle of a Marine staff sergeant set against the bleak backdrop of the Vietnam War. After a tour in combat duty and an emotional homecoming that forced him to return to the South Pacific, he finds himself caught in Vietnam just before the fall of Saigon. The universal phenomenon of war is brought down into something more personal and real as readers witness what really goes on during wartime.
In “We Were Brothers,” readers will relive the days when propaganda was commonplace and cover-ups were easy for the most powerful government on earth. This is an intense reading experience where fiction seamlessly blends with historical facts.
